The power of acceptance

Accept that whatever happens in your life, is 'part of the process', and that your main goal should be to use it to increase your Awareness, rather than resistance, change or getting rid of something. So often your personality has taught you to start with choosing resistance as an appropriate reaction, often expressed through rejection because he has interpreted something as 'not nice'. Still, over and over again this choice did not bring you what you were really looking for. Choosing resistance for a reaction costs a lot of energy, and when you are really honest with yourself, in the end you always had to come up with some form of acceptance anyway. Then why do you start this process over and over again, why choose this seemingly successful personality approach as an appropriate response?

It seems as though there is something that can be obtained, through trying to change circumstances or people, and thus trying to shape what has already happened in order to make it acceptable or nice for you (in which you almost never succeed by the way), thus justifying your choice for non-acceptance. Acceptance also could suggest that your personality is not in control and others have power over you. Acceptance, seen from the perspective of your personality, is an end, a choice for weakness when he has explored all alternatives he could come up with but which he could not make work either. However, acceptance is not an end, it is the beginning of your new way of dealing with a situation, especially when you start with it soon after the situation arose. And since you now no longer have to invest your energy in resistance and looking for alternatives, you automatically have a lot of energy and attention for this available.

True acceptance is possible only when you are prepared to let go of the goals and ways of your personality, and you know already that they cannot bring you a true solution. You will notice this through the fact that a situation, 'accepted' by your personality, always comes 'with a story' which indicates that it is not neutral to you, whereas true acceptance leads to a significant feeling of knowing that it is right the way it is, without any further explanation. Start with realizing that 'nice' or ''pleasant' is not the standard to live by, even when your personality does not understand what a situation is for, or when it does not meet its standards like acceptable, safe, complete etc. Stop this vicious circle of judgment. There is something else already within you that can indeed use this situation for increasing Awareness: your inner Self. This aspect can use anything in your life to help you understand that it does not really matter what your personality thinks or wants a situation to be, and can use it to help you become more aware of him Self.

How you can do this? Simply remind yourself that you would rather approach this situation through your inner Self and invite this aspect to offer you inspiration. This is an option you normally overlook and render unused, maybe because you did not know it, but even if you knew, the patterns of your personality are so familiar and attractive that you may not have wanted to make this choice. You may not know where to look for the answers from your inner Self, but at least you start searching for them. No doubt your personality will still come up with all kinds of thoughts and ideas, all you have to do is perceive these and let them go by, do not actively deal with them. Let it be, that is what personalities do, do not fight this nor strengthen it any further. Simply perceive what he has to offer and what its outcome should be, and what really comes from it should you once again choose to follow it.

Accept what is and do not waste your energy on thinking, as subtle as may be, that things should not be the way they are. Respect the contributions and roles of others involved, no matter how extreme or unwanted they may seem to you. This is your perception and that is your starting point for now. Acknowledge that you cannot know the true purpose of this situation, and so you also cannot know what has to come of it or what you should do anyway. Practice this approach in relatively small situations to learn to trust the process and its experiences. Notice what happens when your acceptance automatically frees other people of the burden of your non-acceptance.

You need not change a situation when Awareness is your true goal. You need not dó anything to make a situation acceptable, it already is, all you have to do is to become aware of it, and you can use any given situation to practice. By the way, this does not mean that 'nothing happens' when you make this choice, what it does mean is that the intention from which any action may stem, is different from the one you choose before: it does not come from a place of resistance, it comes from a place of inspiration. Then enjoy the experience of your inner Self and the energy you have left because you did not have to invest it in continuously upholding your resistance.
