Depressive

Millions of people these days experience what is called depression. Anti-depressives are now sold more than the ordinary aspirin. Does this mean that there is something wrong with us as humanity? Or are we facing a development process which we not yet fully grasp because it is new to us?

Let's assume for a moment this last option were a valid one. Depression has everything to do with experiencing a great deal of uselessness. You still perceive things, however, you can no longer make it 'work' for you anymore, thus depriving you of the experience of 'fun'. And since 'fun' is the desired state of awareness, this is automatically seen as 'wrong'. Seen from the perspective of your personality this is a valid assumption which has to be fixed somehow.

You could also see depression as a phase in a normal process of increasing awareness in which you experience for a short or longer period of time, what it is like when your personality is no longer in charge, a place from where you can explore new options. You can no longer deny that there is something within you that is stronger than your power to create a 'nice' worldview and believe it to be true. It is obvious that there has been a shift in powers within you, although you not yet know between which ones. Here the knowledge of the difference between your personality and your inner Self can be very helpful. And since this whole site is dedicated to these aspects, you can use the information here to become even more aware of it.

There is a difference between your personality and your inner Self, and you can learn to become aware of it. Being depressive can be seen as a state of mind where you have become aware of the first, however have not yet become familiar with the second one. There is nothing wrong or bad about you experiencing depression, it is simply your way to enter this process of awareness and stay focused, and the intensity of the experience itself will function as a reminder that something really needs to be worked on here.

Now it is likely to take some time to get used to getting rid of the old, familiar idea that a solution should be found in mechanisms to suppress or fix this experience of depression and try to return to what was there before this happened. You will find out, if necessary the hard way, that what you did in the old way no longer satisfies your real needs. And it sure takes courage to explore other ways than that. Be glad though that you have at least already taken one big step: you have experienced in full that your personality can no longer make things work for you. This is not a personal mistake of yours, it is a logical step in your personal growth that you may not have been expecting.
