Friendly cooperation

Your personality knows very well that it would be all too obvious when he should not cooperate in the things that are suggested as solutions for the unpleasant feelings that you experience. So one of his successful approaches is: a friendly cooperation during those moments when you bring these things into your awareness. He does want to read about different possibilities, and he very well wants to join in an exercise now and then, or apply for a training for example. He even wants to label it "appealing".

And then, smoothly and gently, he will direct your attention back to the everyday life in which he plays the leading part, and gently makes you forget what it was you wanted to practice, and especially reminds you only every now and then of what you wanted to accomplish in the first place, as that is not in his interest. Even using smart systems like beeps in your agenda or things like that will not really work, as he is a master in thoughts like "o yea, great, but I have to do this first, I will do that later", and then make you forget altogether. He may  even use this principle afterwards in order to reestablish himself by making you feel guilty.

Now is this wrong? No, it is what personalities do. Over the years you have grown accustomed to the habit of handing over everything in your life to your personality for interpretation and control, so be not surprised that he will do the same with any new thought that you may want to introduce. Become aware of it. Whenever you are in real trouble and something has to happen because your personality cannot make things work for you anymore, then you will not be able to escape this change of mind. Until then, take a little step every now and then, at a pace that is comfortable for you. By reading about it, practicing it every now and then. Many small steps do make a big difference after a while!
