Imbalance through orders and appointments

In your everyday life you will face people who want something from you: your presence, input, activity etc. Before someone has put this question, everything was all-right and your future seemed free and makeable. And then the question was popped. Depending on how you judge the attractiveness and feasibility of the request, your first reaction will be something like either "nice" or "shit". And your response will be likewise, so either enthusiastic or with resistance. You are no doubt familiar with your own responses in these two situations. But the real question here is: what can you do with this knowledge?

Every request that you receive is the basis of some form of imbalance. You are now aware of an expectation that you have to meet, somewhere in the future. It is a natural response to try to restore a situation of imbalance to neutral as soon as possible. Now this is quite unachievable. When you bear in mind the number of requests that you receive during the day, you simply cannot start with all of them immediately, and so you find yourself with a sort of continuous booster within you to keep going on. As in your mind this whole bunch of unfinished business will be a continuous source of attention, not in the least because all requests get a status of "have to".

The roots here can be found in your ideas about the makeability of your life. It is very likely that you perceive every request as an interference with your own plans for your future and the role that you assigned yourself in shaping it. It is also likely to be a source of having to do things that you would not have chosen yourself, pressure, stress, etc.

Now let's assume for a moment that your inner Self turns out to be the real aspect of you who runs your life, and that the role of your personality is limited to that of an interpretator of whatever it is he sees, hears, smells, experiences etc. Only he turned out to use this input to twist this idea in such a way that now he has made himself to be the one in charge of your life. Now if this is true, then it would only be your interpretation that bothers you. And you can do something about that: become aware of it, and choose to no longer strengthen it. Make more space for your inner Self. Appointments and requests are no more than a kind of pre-information on what it is that you are likely to find yourself working on some moment in time. That's it. It is not about "finished", that is only one moment in time. It is about what you learn in all those other moments, and the growing awareness that they may bring you. "Finished" is a very narrow-minded judgment of an extensive process, based on one standard: time. Now you can easily recognize that this input is of your personality.

How do you deal with this in everyday life? Whenever you get a request, then turn your attention inward, notice how it feels, and react accordingly, inspired by your inner Self. Take notice of it, but no more. And then let it go. You will be inspired to work on it at the appropriate time. And things often go so much easier than you would have ever expected, that that in itself is a valuable lesson that may come of this.
