Practically inviting your inner Self
Your inner Self is already there, you only do not focus your attention on it, since for now you believe that you like your personality better. Everybody has experiences with his inner Self, for example a certainty in 'knowing' something, a form of 'feeling' that this is the right thing without any particular reasoning involved. Your inner Self is much more prominent in your life than you assume, your personality actually is a
reaction mechanism only, however, he is very successful in hiding this from your awareness by acting it out intensely.
When something is already within you, all you have to do is focus your awareness on it. How? Simply by asking for example, like: I now ask my inner Self to deal with this situation, or: what would it be like when I would experience this situation through my inner Self. Thus you show yourself mentally that you are looking for other things than your standard reactions. You can also make mental space available by becoming aware of all
the things your personality has put in the way of experiencing your Self (see a.o. the column writing things down), and thus let go. Or at least you can introduce some doubt in the certainty of your personality beliefs by simply asking: is this really true?
Of course you can shift the focus of your awareness practically by doing some relaxation exercises or meditation, thus taking away the focus on the thinking process that goes on in your head. However, your personality is likely to be very successful to not even let you start with these. So you may rather do this in small steps: when you take various short moments in which you focus your attention on your breath for one or two breaths,
this too will help you to lessen the tight grip your personality has on the focus of your awareness.
Be not surprised to find that you only really want to do this when the reactions and methods of your personality no longer offer a reasonable solution, and that your personality immediately introduces expectations like: there has to come a reaction, in a way that suits him, and should hold out some instantaneous perfect solution according to his standards, otherwise he will take over control once again. Now this is a natural yet not
a great way to open up to your inner Self. So it becomes a matter of practice: as much as you can, in as many situations as possible, and thus remember how much you actually prefer your inner Self over your personality.
