Happy with a new cupboard?
Recently, Joep and I have installed two new cupboards in the scullery. They offer us a convenient amount of extra storage space. Not only does it look good, it allowed us to organize things neatly as well.
I noticed that the remains of my personality during that weekend regularly brought up things like 'isn't it great, the scullery now!", this then resulted in a tiny moment of happiness, only to find it immediately gone after that. So there had to be introduced a new, likewise thought. The assortment used was somewhat like: 'looks great, nice cupboards', 'how nice that the phones and
wires are now conveniently towed away in the cupboard', 'nice gutter for the wires', 'great, now it is neat there as well', 'just right, the space for my bread maker' and 'good that the shoes are now off the floor'. This same series of thoughts kept on returning in my head during the day, only every now and then traded for an attempt to come up with new 'reasons to be happy'. To me it became very clear once again that your personality cannot give you a continuous pleasant experience, and has to
come up with these endless repetitions in your mind in order to create and maintain an illusion of 'nice'. However, it costs a tremendous amount of effort and focus, to the extent where I almost became grumpy!
Once I clearly noticed the game of the remains of my personality, it was of course over at once and I the endless mental repetitions of the same thoughts stopped, thus allowing my inner Self to fully fill my mind with its continuously pleasant experience, free from all those tiring thoughts. And found myself the proud owner of a new column ;-)
