More about living inspired by your inner Self
Your inner Self can be experienced as a state of being, a feeling of inner peace that cannot be threatened. You somehow know that everything is perfect the way it is. There is no judgment, "have to's", planning, doubt, pressure, fear, anxiety etc. And the good news is, that the only thing that you have to do to experience all this, is to get out of your own way, remove the barriers your personality has introduced between you and your remembrance
of all this within yourself.
Your inner Self is not so much located in your head, but is more a general feeling, a kind of being. An easy way to tell whether you are dealing with your personality or your inner Self, is locating the place of action. When you are experiencing all kinds of activity in your head, rest assured that it is your personality speaking. Within your head you also will become aware of the limitation of your experiences, and it is easy to believe that
the experience in your head should have to change. But it is not so much the experience in your head that has to change, as well as redirecting your attention towards your inner Self, that is the ultimate way to free yourself from the limitations that you experience in your head.
It may seem that when you are working with these ideas, that you have to sacrifice everything you valued or gave you pleasure. In fact, you are experiencing the limitations that your personality has placed upon your life. Once you move through these phases you will experience a feeling that is so much more pleasant than the one you gave it up for. Only now you are no longer interested in it, the temporary pleasure of your personality is no longer
appealing to you. You will rather choose the whole experience of your inner Self, regardless of the circumstances that you are in.
Inner peace is not a state of mind that is separate from you, or requires that all other activities should disappear. On the contrary. Inner peace is a state of mind that you can experience in the midst of turmoil and activity. By choosing observation and action inspired by your inner Self, the inner peace will be the center and source of your further actions.
Your personality has an endless creativity to renew situations. Your inner Self always only has one answer: it does not have a value in itself. It does not mean anything in itself. It is good the way it is. And this realization will bring you for sure the awareness of the inner peace and being of your inner Self, be it for a short or maybe longer period of time.
Now you will need a lot of confidence and trust when you choose for your inner Self, because he usually does not give information in advance, or comes with neat argumentation. So as far as your personality is concerned, you are making a bit of a fool out of yourself, and there is no guarantee that you will indeed be able to give a proper reaction at the right moment.
One way to become more aware of your inner Self is, when every time you notice that your personality is making his judgments and interpretations again, to ask your inner Self to do that for you. Thus you take the pressure away from your personality, who is convinced that a judgment has to be made. And your inner Self always only has one reaction: it is all right the way it is. A thing to remember
for all those times when your personality seems to be going on and on.
Your personality wants you to believe that you lose a part of yourself when you start with this. But the opposite is true: you start to remember who you really are, but yes, it will go at the expense of the efforts you put in upholding your personality. And although your personality does not have any real power itself (you might compare it with a lamp that you light in a dark room: the darkness cannot
stop the light), your routine in choosing will be a thing that requires your conscious awareness for quite some time.
There are people who see in a flash the universal truth of this changing of focus from your personality to your inner Self, but they are very rare. Most of us at first apply it to carefully chosen areas of our lives, and keep on with our personality input for the rest of it, either consciously or unconsciously. But once you have started with it, the rest can but follow, be it fast or slow, that does
not matter, you are already way ahead of someone who has not looked at this choice at all. There is more wisdom within you than you could ever imagine. And your process of awareness, once you have made the choice, will go at a pace that is perfect for you, without introducing extra tension, fear or anxiety (although you will have to move through the fears and anxieties your personality has made you believe in).
You might want to introduce some moments in which you consciously spend some time with your inner Self, but that is not necessary. You could do so by sitting down and bring your attention inward. Please do remember that this kind of exercises has almost the same effect as when you move one step ahead in remembering your inner Self: the reality of the world of your personality will then return to
your awareness again, and will appear to be extra raw and unattractive. Only do it when this suits you, once again, it is not necessary in itself for remembrance.
The utterly awkward part of this process is, that especially in the beginning, there are only very brief moments where you are "allowed" to experience your inner Self, it is your personality who will soon occupy your mind with all kind of necessities, which in themselves are all choices for either him or your inner Self. This is also why things seem to be getting worse once you start with this, or that your efforts do not seem to pay off. You may well be tempted to give up, because the moments of
inner peace that you are looking for are so limited in time, and the feelings afterwards are so unpleasant.
And still. Even the fact that it are only brief moments in which you experience your inner Self, it can well live up against all the other experiences of your personality. And when you hold on for a while, you will start to notice that there is a consistency in the patterns you experience, and that it is simply a matter of staying on the road that you have taken.
It takes courage to learn to trust the offerings of your inner Self, especially because of its seemingly unpredictability, and that it cannot be controlled, predicted or guaranteed. There is no guarantee that you are getting inspiration at the moment that you want it, or that you are going to contribute something "useful". On the other hand, it is a form of arrogance of your personality to make you
believe that he is the only one able to make a useful contribution to your life. Living inspired by your inner Self strengthens your own remembrance, and you also offer it automatically (though maybe not consciously) to others for inspiration. Fear and insecurity stem from the fact that your personality wants you to believe that others only want their personalities reinforced and are not looking for "something else". Unpleasant experiences from the time where your personality defended his own convictions
and all consequences it brought him, are now projected onto the intentions of your inner Self. Your inner Self will not "sell" itself, it will not discuss, does not want to change people. Others can remember their own inner Self by seeing you remember it, whether you sweep the street, are manager of a company, teach children or write a book about it.
