About car navigation systems and forgetting who you really are
Forgetting who you really are because you got distracted from your inner Self through the activities of your personality, is not limited to restricted moments or special occasions, it happens in all kinds of everyday situations.
Lately someone told me that he was very content with his car navigation system. However, he noticed that he now not only entered the way to a certain location, but also had to enter the way home, simply because he now focused on the directions of the navigation system only. This is a fine example of how personality tools help you to forget the ability of your Self to deal with such a situation.
Time is another example which you have brought outside of yourself through introducing watches. You take a personality tool, in this case a watch, and state: this can do the job fine. Then you lose the insight that you simply can Know the time and make yourself dependent on the presence of the technique. And you no longer ask your Self for it.
Another situation: for example when someone is late. Because you are not completely separated from others, you can simply Know this. However, because you have forgotten this and because you know that almost everybody now has a mobile phone, you expect a phone call and focus on the phone to ring, rather than looking within yourself to the place where you can Know this.
You can also Know what to do next, however because you taught yourself that you should plan, make lists, think and such, thus placing many things outside yourself, you start reasoning based on these external informations what you should do. And your personality then states that since you got used to planning, lists and such, you cannot do without because otherwise nothing would work anymore in your life.
This is not so much about using or not using lists, a watch or a car navigation system. It is about what you use these for to become aware of. You can use them for introducing an extra way of looking at a situation by becoming aware of how you distract yourself through it from what is already available within your Self. You may regularly remind yourself: I would like to Know when he will be here/what time it is/ what to do next/how to return to the highway. You
then simply have to look for something different than your personality who knows only one answer to this question, which is his way of dealing with it. Your inner Self, who is in charge of Knowing, cannot be controlled by him. In this way you create several moments each day where you actively start looking for your inner Self.
Even remembering this Knowing is not a goal in itself, it comes automatically when you make more mental space available for your inner Self. But, as you see, you can use your search for it also to increase awareness. At least you have introduced the idea that there should be a different way to deal with the situation at hand. There is nothing magical or supernatural about Knowing, it is simply an aspect of being your Self, and once you remember this, you will
experience this as very normal.
Just like with the car navigation system you usually could use some help to get started to find the first way of your way back. Later you get the hang of it and Know where to look and you can do the rest by yourself. Sites like this tell you about a possible way back. And just like when you were to no longer use your route navigation system, it may be a bit scary and you will have to build confidence because especially in the beginning the thinking part of your
personality will be quite strong in relation to the quiet Knowing from your Self. Be confident though that when you have moved through that phase, you will receive the bonus of the intense Peace and Certainty that automatically comes with inner Knowing.
