Perfectionist
Perfectionism is nothing more than a defence mechanism of your personality, one which aims at preventing having to face unpleasant reactions of others as much as possible. Now when you do something 'well', you usually receive pleasant reactions and you are able to deal with unpleasant ones conveniently by proving that you have lived up to 'the standard'. So perfectionism is a way in which to control
pleasant experiences as much as possible by preventing the opposite (and vulnerability) from happening.
Imagine what would happen when there would be no reactions at all - neither pleasant nor unpleasant ones - would you truly put as much effort into perfecting things as you do at the moment? Chances are very little, and with a reason: since you no longer may have to defend yourself, or prevent you from becoming vulnerable, nor do you get any extra credit for it, this
would not really interest you that much actually. Also, notice the thought patterns in your head when you are busy perfecting something, you are likely to encounter quite an amount of 'checks' there!
So see perfectionism for what it is, a personality way to create a world which is as safe as possible for him. From the previous lines you may conclude the alternative as well: a much more free approach. And a great amount of attention 'left' for you to give to your inner Self. By the way, this does not imply that you now were not to deliver 'good' work anymore, since
letting go without replacing it with new personality issues is clearly something different than making the opposite come true!
