Why do problems seem so much worse when you are in the middle of your way through?

One of the principles of your personality is that it draws a line from your past into the future without any interruption from the present. So if your present or (recent) past experiences are unpleasant, he will make you believe that that will remain that way, emotions included. And to increase its grip, your personality will come up with a lot of usually especially fearful knowledge about similar situations. This will not make your perspectives very appealing to you. And furthermore, personalities do have a tendency to deal with situations that they cannot control (enough) through withdrawal. This will cause extra tension, especially when that is not possible because your problems have to do with bodily symptoms.

The most important thing that your personality wants you to forget, is the power of NOW. Because NOW is the place where your experiences are. The only moment where you can release the patterns of your personality is NOW (and so your personality will try to distract you from it with promises like "I will start tomorrow", "let's think this over", "yesterday this did not work either" etcetera).

Experience comes from moving through a situation. It is there that you really have to come up with the practical solution on how to deal with situations and feelings. You do not have the perspective of the total experience as yet, and cannot know from experience what is important and what isn't, or what lessons you are about to learn. You do not know how you will be after you have lived through this period. There are of course situations that a lot of people have lived through before you, and you may find things to help you and tips to deal with it, like when grieving for a loved one or facing a deadly disease. But still, that is technical knowledge to you, and you have not applied it yourself. Knowing what lies ahead may take away some of the fear of the unknown, but there is no guarantee that it will not increase it.

For example, you may very well "know" that you will suffer severe pain for three days after an operation, but it is not until you lie in the hospital bed that you really know what that means for you, and that you have to practice your choice on how to deal with it. And it will be of no use for you to know that it will only be for three days when you cannot handle it, in such cases three days can be an extremely long period. Remember that even in such situations your personality will draw the line from experience to the future in an unaltered way, and will not stimulate you to find the NOW in order to do something about it. He will rather come with advices like avoiding the experiences through pills, sleeping etc., until it is of a size that is manageable for him.

Do not be surprised to find that this is a process that consists of small steps: a bit forward, everything is a bit less intense and so is the past-future line of your personality, until you grow confident that you are heading in the right direction. Then your most intense experiences are over, and you can now deal with familiar sizes again, and you now know how to repeat the way you have chosen to deal with them. And then dealing with this problem is no longer a major issue for you. It is of course possible that a flash of insight will speed this whole process up: when you start to clearly understand the different roles of your personality and your inner Self, then the painful process of altering a vision of your personality becomes a tool to practice remembrance of your inner Self.
