Santa Claus

Everything with regard to Santa Claus is a fine example of 'the rise and fall' of your personality. Join me in taking a closer look:

From your early childhood on, people around you tell you that there is a very old, thick man, who lives on the North Pole and is in charge of rewarding your behaviour once a year with gifts. There are reindeer, he visits every single soul on earth in one night and for that he uses an air-sled. Why would you doubt this, every year you are being convinced through men in red suits, presents, and all other things related to this time of the year. But not in the least by the convincing input of the people around you. It is about to bring you several weeks of hope, expectation, a bit of fear, maybe even disappointment, and all this together makes your unique mix of experiencing Santa Claus.

You can only uphold the belief in this story for a limited amount of time. You will outgrow this belief, one day you have grown to such an extent that you must realize somehow that this idea cannot be true. Okay, maybe you will have doubts for one more year, but then it will be definitely over. Has your life collapsed at that moment? Not in the least, you simply live on. You cannot even imagine that you could have ever believed in it, the whole story is too unbelievable. And all those feelings you experienced while you believed in it, are simply gone, they are no longer nourished anymore.

With your personality it is very much alike. Especially through the people around you you were led to believe in a (very complex) worldview. This you will be able to uphold for quite some time, however, you will outgrow this as certain as is your belief in Santa Claus. You will start to notice that the whole concept of entertaining a personality is neither a truth in itself, nor very attractive, and you will outgrow believing in it. You will still live your life, but from a new perspective, which arose when you let go of all the things you made yourself believe in. You are then also free from all the emotions these caused in you, and are now able to experience your quiet, peaceful, familiar Self. And you can hardly imagine having ever believed there was something else.
