When there is less for you to do

In the absence of possibilities for creating or reacting to stimuli, you are about to notice at first a lot of mental activity (many thoughts and trying to distract you from this experience) in order to hide this fact as much as possible from your awareness. It is usually accompanied by an idea of 'wrong', 'unwanted' and 'frightening', and this idea is of course at first projected onto anything that seems the cause of this silence. Your personality needs input from situations and ideas in order to be able to continue to manifest himself, and he simply cannot do anything with silence. 

When you find yourself in a situation where there are less stimuli, for example when you are sick, unemployed, divorced or through any other cause, then regularly make the conscious choice to go with that lower input-level and let happen what happens in such situations, rather than frantically start looking for replacements. In this way, a period like that can be helpful to literally come to your Self again. Since your Self only occupies space which your personality has made available, the absence - or at least lower level - of stimuli, there almost automatically comes more mental space available, simply because there is less to do for your personality.

You will experience very practically what it is like to have your personality be less prominent, especially when you realize this is not wrong in itself, it even is a logical process, and there will be something else which will fill the space you thus leave empty. This alone will make your belief in the input and endless need for activity through your personality less than before. In this way you also are likely to experience your inner Self more, and through experiencing your personality in a more distant way besides that, you can become aware of what it is that you keep on putting in place of this and why, and let that go.
