Smoking

Smoking gives you a sensation that you have learned to label over time as "nice". Just like alcohol, it takes care of a decrease in sensitivity of input, in this case at least of smell, taste and hunger. Smoking is likely to have a vasoconstriction effect, a thing that also happens when you are tense or see yourself in danger. Your hart will pump a little faster, and your blood will flow a little faster. This seems a bit like a fight-or-flee reaction: you are more alert, your decision making process is also involved: you divide decisions into important and unimportant, and are likely to drop the unimportant ones faster: a form of restricted awareness. On the other hand, it is very pleasant for your personality that he may intensely focus on your body during the day (which is one of his biggest tools) and maintain the cycle: wanting one - allowing yourself one - experience smoking - period in which you do not smoke nor want one. And an overall guilt feeling can be added (because you know that it could affect your health).

Smoking can be reduced to a convenient personality tool to hold his grip on you during the day. Not only because he is now allowed to instantly hate all the people who do not smoke, and all the situations in which he is reminded that it is a choice. He may not be able to make your life work too well for you, at least he has one thing during the day with which he can make it more worth while for you and give you a pleasant experience: smoking, which also allows you to shut yourself off from the less pleasant experiences of the day. This may explain why you do smoke more when you feel less at ease, or when you go through a stressful period. Relaxing also seems to trigger the need for a cigarette: you may light one when you take a break, during or after work, when you relax after an intimate experience, after dinner, and you are likely to smoke more in combination with alcohol (which has a vasodilatation effect).

Just like all other forms of addiction, facing the intensity of your normal experiences is one of the main reasons why you cannot stop. That is why working on your basis, feeling more at ease with your inner Self and letting go of the energy that you put into the patters of your personality, are the ultimate way to feel better. Your cravings for smoking will diminish without any effort when you no longer need it, as a side-effect from your process of awareness.
