Who attacks who?
Imagine, you are talking to a colleague and he says that he believes your boss is an annoying, unpleasant person. Your picture of your boss is not like that. And you find yourself expressing this to your colleague, most likely in a way which aims at showing that this is not so according to your view of him, or that things are not as bad as they may seem, or likewise. It would be nice when the other person would now adjust his view
of your boss accordingly. However, when this does not happen, you find yourself stuck with a vague, unpleasant feeling. What is it that really happens here?
You have created your own personal image of your boss, and the other person actually attacks yoúr image, at least does not support it. In the eyes of your personality this is no less than an attack on, and weakening of himself. This is likely to be followed by a mechanism which wants to get rid of the unpleasant feelings which result from this. Preferably through making the other person agree to your view of the situation, so that
you can uphold your own judgments and can now go over them once again, with an outcome which is now 'pleasant' for you (at least in a way where your image is no longer attacked). However, it is more likely that the other person will nót do so, and you find yourself stuck with a more or less intense feeling of tension, which sooner or later is likely to express itself somehow, only now in relation to another person or situation.
You see here your personality at work, where he wants you to forget that you yourself have played an active role in it all, and in creating your own experiences in special. You are likely to label this as a problem of your colleague or of your boss. So this can be a great exercise in awareness. Neither your image, nor the one of your colleague is 'true', since every interpretation you make is always a personality action. When you truly
face the mechanism itself and let go of your belief in it, you automatically will find that more mental space becomes available, which you can then choose to offer to your inner Self to fill.
