(Working) pressure
Pressure is a form of tension that will arise whenever you believe that the things you think you have to do, cannot be finished in a normal way and with good results within a period of time that you can overlook. The roles that other people play in it, make you feel limited in your freedom and the way that you shape your future. You are likely to put a lot of effort in continuously checking the
things that you have to do with the possibilities you have to be successful in it, and preventing unpleasant outcomes as much as possible.
When dealing with working pressure, your personality wants you to believe that the pressure that you are experiencing right now because you were assigned task number 17, has to continue in the future until there is one task finished or taken away from you (thus assuming that 16 tasks were judged by you as a limit that you could handle). Now this guarantees that you are likely to experience pressure for a considerable period of time. You are likely to experience somewhat the same feeling whenever
you take a look at your agenda and to-do lists: you feel a kind of powerlessness or being overwhelmed because it is not obvious enough to you that you are going to make it.
What is the alternative to pressure? Is it peace (and if it is, what are you going to do with it?). Is it about being in control? These are examples of alternatives to your personality. Everywhere in the world you may find practical tips to examine your daily activities and help you to make choices and set priorities. Or to become aware of your tendency to do the work for other people
because you believe that you can do it better, or know more, or do not dare to say no. And when you blow your whistle a couple of times, that is about to scare away a couple of people also. Now when you would be prepared to make some changes, this is not likely to take a way the real source of your problem, it will only diminish the symptoms. For a real solution you focus your attention on these issues:
-
do accept that your to-do list will be filled with issues that your personality cannot control
-
set your goals for your activities right, which is: increase awareness of your inner Self. This makes sure that pressure is no longer a problem for you, but a learning situation to deal with all kinds of personality issues with regard to pressure, not by taking it away or closing your mind to it, but by dealing with it from a different intention
-
every time when you experience some form of pressure, or the unpleasant things that follow from a deadline that you did not meet, repeat mentally the fact that you have consciously made the choices described here.
-
and ask your inner Self to inspire you about the next step here. If necessary, focus your attention inward, for example through focusing your awareness on your breath and consciously follow this movement for a couple of breaths.
Now it may sound a bit vague when you read this, but that is because you do not have any experience with it as yet. There is no reason to assume that your inner Self is not as good, or even better, in shaping your life than is your personality. You only have not allowed it into your life until now, due to the frantic claim on your awareness through your personality. Your inner Self will not claim awareness, it simply waits until
you have made mental space for him to fill. Now you know from experience that your personality is not as successful as he wants you to believe. You are not your to-do list or your agenda. Your growth in awareness is not determined by worldly successes and avoiding unpleasantness for yourself or others.
